2016 National Championships

On May 12~14, eight members of our competition team fought at the 2016 Canadian National Championships. Stan was up first and started out strong, managing to point gap his opponents all the way up to the semi-finals, where he unfortunately lost against the silver medalist. In the double elimination round, Stan point gapped his opponent again and was once again in the semi-finals. He fought well but was unable to beat the silver medalist and placed 4th.
Next up was Mya, who fought an extremely close match in the finals, scoring a head shot with only 2 seconds to spare, bringing the score to 29-29 and going into the Golden Point round. However, her opponent ended up scoring first and Mya placed silver.
Schehzer drew the 2015 Pan-American bronze medalist first match and fought extremely well. He played a strong inside game but ultimately lost the match.
Sukhnor won his first match by point gap, however lost his second match to the Pan-Amerian champion.
Sofie was undefeated until the semi-finals. In the semi-final round it was a close match, and Sofie lost by 2 points, earning the bronze.
Josipa won by point gap in all of her matches leading up to the finals, where she faced the reigning junior Canadian national champion. She played the game extremely carefully and was up by 2 points going into the third round. She scored 5 points in the last 30 seconds, including a head shot, bringing the score to 7-0, and winning the title of national champion for the second year in a row.
Shane fought the 2016 national champion during his first match.
Ethan had a tough draw first match, however he took it in stride and was up by one point going into the third round. He fought strongly but after a very close match unfortunately lost 7-8.
